At Borderlands Resource Initiative, we are dedicated to amplifying the voices of migrants and asylum seekers through research, advocacy, and compassionate action. Our mission is to create a more just and equitable society by using data and storytelling to ignite real change. We’re searching for a Data & Research Analyst who’s passionate about using their skills to uncover the untold stories of asylum seekers and migrants, and to shape a future where their rights to safety, dignity, and self-determination are fiercely protected.
Why We Need You
Your work as a Data & Research Analyst will be at the heart of our mission. You will translate critical data into powerful stories that spark action, create empathy, and drive advocacy. By uncovering and sharing the real experiences of asylum seekers, you’ll shape policy conversations and inspire the support necessary to help them thrive. Without you, these important stories may go unheard, and the change we seek may be delayed.
What You Will Be Doing
Your role will be dynamic and deeply impactful, where research, storytelling, and advocacy intersect. You’ll turn numbers and data into compelling narratives that shine a light on the journeys of asylum seekers. By doing so, you’ll contribute to real policy shifts and expand the support systems around these vulnerable communities. Here’s what makes this role stand out:
• Transform raw data into meaningful and vivid stories that move hearts and minds toward positive change.
• Advance policy and advocacy efforts through targeted research that supports migrants and asylum seekers.
• Engage with media and policymakers as needed, leveraging your research to promote change and increase awareness.
You Need These Qualifications
• You have experience working with asylum seekers and migrants, understanding the nuances of their lived experiences.
• You’re a self-directed researcher and journalist who thrives on independence and accountability.
• You have strong data analysis skills, using tools like Excel, SQL, or SPSS to organize and interpret large datasets.
• You have experience creating visualizations and reports to communicate complex data simply and effectively.
• You are proficient in data collection methods, including surveys, interviews, and field research.
It Would Be Nice If...
• You have experience working on self-directed research topics and managing projects independently.
• You have published in mainstream media or academic journals and know how to navigate journalistic landscapes.
• You are bilingual in English and Spanish, ready to connect with diverse communities and stakeholders.
• You have experience with statistical software and programming languages, such as R or Python, for deeper data analysis and insights.
